Can male pigs be neutered? I would like to let ours room together since they are such good friends - but don´t want more pigs.

It is possible to neuter male pigs, but as with any surgery there is a risk attached. Neutering a guinea pig is more complicated and risky than neutering a dog or cat.

Many people consider the risk of possibly losing their pet to be too great and opt instead to keep the sexes seperated.

Anyone considering neutering should be sure to locate an exotics vet who has plenty of experience performing this operation, specifically on guinea pigs. Ask how many guinea pigs the vet has neutered and also how many of those were successful. The best anesthetic to use for guinea pigs is Isoflurane gas.

I guess I´ll just keep them separated. Not worth losing him.

Thanks for the reply.
