You Know You´re a Novice When...

It´s a soft fluffy object -- pretty sweet, filled with a soft fluffy white filling. Imagine what Barbie would eat at the club with her big-haired girl friends. Make it a little fluffier and sweeter and you have it.

Maybe someone can dredge up a pic for her? It is an oblong filled fluffy cake. I think they are designed to be used in bomb shelters (i.e. a 20 year half-life).

Kat, where do you live? A Twinkie is a wonderful cup- cake- like -confection! It is about 4 inches long and about 1 1/2 inches high and wide. It is white cake filled with white frosting. Super soft and gooey. Kids love them!

Thanks Evangeline! Now I know what my Tubbit is! I´ll have to post a picture, she looks like Dobby´s new pig except her white and cream markings are more defined. Maybe because she is older?

Why do Beige pigs have to have red eyes? Or is it too long and confusing?

Kara- My pig is a big, chubby boy and his name is Buddy, as far as I can figure. I´m having a name problem, as I call him just about everything that comes into my pea-sized head.
Oh, and Twinkies are kind of dry going down. They look delicious in the package, but keep milk or something handy or you´ll choke to death.

Kat´s in Australia, Kara. I am too and we don´t have Twinkies, except in a couple of import grocery specialists. The only reason I know what Twinkies are is because I used to read "The Babysitters Club" books as a kid (oh, for shame!).

Ok, fasten your seatbelt. Genetics is sometimes hard to simplify, but I´ll still try.

In cavies, there are two basic colors: red and black. White is the absence of color.
There is a gene that makes the eyes either dark or pink. That eye gene influenced the color of the hair.

Take black, for example. The same gene decides if the pig is going to have black or chocolate. A black pig always has dark eyes. If you give that pig the pink eye gene, the hair comes out lilac. Chocolate pigs have ruby eyes. If you give that pig the pink eye gene, the hair will come out beige.

Essentially, all these colors are different "degrees" of black:
-black
-chocolate
-lilac
-beige

The same way, the red is influenced by other genes. The following colors are dilutions of red:
-red
-orange (also sometimes called golden)
-cream

In other words, a beige pig is genetically a chocolate pig that has the pink eye gene. That´s why you can´t have beige without pink eyes. If there were no pink eyes, the pig would have come out chocolate.

Now, does that make any sense at all?
