I was just wondering if anyone had experience with buying hay in bulk quantities (for instance, is it a thing?). Does it eventually "go bad" or get less fresh? Also, where can you get it? I have seen a lot of places but most only have coarse hay intended for large animals, not finer hay for small animals to eat (I live in Los Angeles so I know there's got to be something!).

Properly stored (dry, with air circulation), hay will last two years with no loss of nutrients.

If you can't find a local source, your best bet is online. American Pet Diner, Small Pet Select, KMS Hayloft, and Oxbow all sell 40-50 pound boxes for $45-$70, depending on what kind of specials they're offering. I personally use Small Pet Select because I've always gotten good hay at a good price, but American Pet Diner has the best hay I've ever seen.
