So, I took Melvin in, and he's been on doxycycline for 7 days now. The only dose info says 25 mg/ml. He still snorts occasionally, and today there was some snot that came to his nostril when he did. Does this sound like he needs a stronger dose, or another 7 days? I don't hear the weaze anymore, but I don't feel like he is over it.

How much of it does he take? How many doses per day?

How long are you supposed to give it to him? How many days?

I just heard from the vet. I don't know the dosages yet, but she wants to do another week of the doxy along with a week of Baytril.

Is it common to double up two different antibiotics?

Yes, particularly with stubborn infections. Baytril and doxycycline are often used together.

Ugh! I didn't look at the dosage until I got home tonight. The doxy was/is 0.15 ml, which is 1.5 on the syringe. The Baytril says 1.2 mls. This would be a full syringe and another .2.

I don't recall ever giving this sort of volume before, and I was afraid to give him that much tonight. The only other info on the bottle is: Baytril 68 mg. Give 1.2 mls every 12 hrs. Does this sound OK? The vet is closed until 8 am tomorrow.

I dissent.

It looks like they have the decimal in the wrong place. The strength is 68 mg/ml? I haven't used a liquid form of Baytril with our guys -- just tablets. Let me see if I can calculate that out for you. What is his weight?

I would not say it is common but it is still sometimes done.
