I'd be interested to see the photo. Any sort of growth/tumor would have been fairly obvious when the dental work was being done. I almost have to think this indeed somehow related to the tongue having been entrapped for what could have been quite some time. I would have no idea how something like that can be resolved, though.

Final pathologist interpretation: While we don't have specific ranges
for guinea pigs, based on normal general mammalian ranges there appears
to be reduced Na and Cl, and reduced proteins. With PU/PD consider
urinalysis if possible to assess for renal protein losses, assess for
any internal parasites (faecal screen, history of prophylaxis). There
does not appear to be an azotaemia to directly suggest renal
disease/failure.
Blood glucose should also be checked in-house as a precaution for
diabetes mellitus.

Dr Christine Bayley.

Amended to add - please note also there are toxic changes in the white
cells which is consistent with an inflammatory focus - consider
urinalysis and culture, assess for occult abscesses eg dental disease.

I don't really see anything remarkable here to my largely untrained eye, other than the sizable air pockets. I double-checked protein values in guinea pigs (Quesenberry, Ferrets, Rabbits & Rodents, 3rd Edition), and it has a range between 44-66 g/L. Could be a sign of early stage renal failure, or could be something as simple as a nutritional deficiency---either from diet or from her chronic intestinal problems causing her to not metabolize nutrients efficiently. Protein in the urine would help with diagnosing possible kidney issues, I believe.

Vet can't send the tongue pictures to my email address for some reason but has posted them on the VIN website but has heard nothing as yet. She mentioned tongue looks split and has a hole in it but Jaffa showed no signs of being in pain and only stopped eating the day before we took her to the vet.

If problems with tongue, how is she eating hay and pellets and grass? We are hand feeding her and are struggling to keep her above 700grams. Will post when I know more. She and sister Jill turn 5 next month and the late Jupiter.

She also said second X-rays showed less wind in tummy. Thanks for the reply Sef.

We are not sure what happened, Jaffa ate her morning grass, syringe feed, but by afternoon she was not eating. She had even gone from 694grams to 800grams in last 2-3 weeks.

Now it seems she is in a coma and barely hanging to life. There are vets but none who have after hours and the closest one who does is over 4 hours away and doubt Jaffa would make it.

She had an appointment to see the specialist Friday but I am guessing it was too long for her to wait. My husband is cuddling her talking to her and trying to make the passing as easy as he can. For us it is a living nightmare!!!

Since moving we have lost 3 pets in 18 months, Jan age nearly 6, Jolly the rabbit nearly 3 and now Jaffa nearly 5. We can only guess she had swelling in her mouth preventing her from eating and swallowing properly.

My husband has just told me Jaffa has passed across to the bridge, now reunited with her sister Jupiter, and friends Jessie, Jemma, Jasmine and little Jan.

Thanks to all who tried to help, no celebrations at Christmas again for us, our hearts yet again broken in two! Thanks again everyone!

Okay, now for sister 3 Jill the last of the trio. She use to live with sister Jupiter and when Jupiter passed away we paired her with other sister Jaffa.

Now that Jaffa has passed away Jill lives alone. Her cage is side by side Jay and Jersey's cage where they can smell and see each other. Now Jaffa passed away in December 2019 and ever since then Jill has lost 10-20grams each week.

Twelve months ago, Jill was 1187grams, now she is 1049grams. Jill also turned 5 in December. She is eating, peeing, pooping, not drinking a lot of water-normal amount. She gets fed 3 times a day. Fresh hay and pellets. Have noticed she has stopped eating her pellets but she is eating 100% of her veggies.

My husband would kill me and leave me if I got another piggy. After Jaffa passed away we did get Jersey in the hope to pair her with Jill but Jill terrorised Jersey so much she was a nervous wreck. And at 5 years old I really don't think Jill is open to having another friend.

Jill is not dribbling or food falling out when eating. All is normal when she eats. She is not squeaking when peeing and pooping. In fact she is acting normal.

I am weighing her weekly studying her closely, she is getting sick of me staring at her all the time. Just wanted to know is there anything I should be looking for? If the weight continues to drop may have to hand feed. Thanks for reading and any replies in advance.

For curiosity her sister Jupiter passed away due to heart problems and her sister Jaffa passed away due to teeth problems.
Jill's breathing is normal and no symptom's of heart problems.
