After the sad news with Negrita, I figured I could at least share the ongoing development with Laylla. She's a 1.5 year old (supposedly) pregnant sow. I suspect Negrita was Laylla's daughter, so as much as I'm nervous about this pregnancy, I'm hoping that a prior birth will ease things. Could be wishful thinking, but I'm going with that. Two tragedies is too much to think about.

Anyway - I figure two pups, at minimum. There's lots of movement (on Laylla's part, too - she's one active pig!).

She's also one bulgy pig.


Pig pregnancy is so hard to forecast. From what I've gleaned from various posts, given that I could feel the pups move the day I brought her home, I'm guessing she could pop anywhere between Monday to the first week in March.

Hoping all goes well. Guess I have been lucky as my sows gave birth easily. Got paws crossed here. RIP Dear little Negrita! Run free and munch the lush green grass in perfect health!

She's enormous. I was out most of yesterday and was CONVINCED she'd give birth while I was gone. Nope. I could feel the pelvic spread late Friday, so I know she's close. Laylla is acting needy all the time. She wanted to be touched the last few days but now isn't happy with anything and is very skittish. It can't be comfortable. I had been thinking 2-3, and now I'm wondering if it's 3-4? Fingers crossed!

But as huge as she is - she's so light on her feet! It's amazing how that piggy can move!

OMG - I've read about being able to hear the babies grind their teeth in the womb. I actually heard it! That is downright freaky.

Laylla and I are both going to lose our minds if she doesn't go soon. LOL. She is acting so needy every time I walk into the room.

I imagine you've read and reread and rereread the labor page! Watch for the hiccup motion! I trust you have a vet you can call if there are complications?

I am watching and listening. Rob tells me a watched piggy won't pop. LOL And yes - I have a vet I can call, and if all else fails, I'd haul her to the one at the one just a mile down the road.

I did - because when she was done I swore it looked like she could be hiding another. I didn't want to squeeze her too much, but everything was soft and gushy, so I figured what was left was just her. I saw two placentas, but she went through those quickly, so I must have missed the third. She's acting fine and looks good, so I'm thinking there shouldn't be any trouble.
