Scruffy was a special guy.

You have a good memory. I find mine fading over time.

I'll never forget him or any of my guinea pigs. As a matter of fact, I have made it clear that when I die, the ashes of those I've lost are to be interred with my remains. Any who are still alive are to be given a full and happy life just as they would if I was here.

So I went shopping for guinea pig veggies today. They had some really nice lettuce and cucumbers, but they were out of green bell peppers. The red ones were really nice, so I had to get them and it reminded me of how much Mr Bubbles loved them, even more than the green ones. That got me thinking about him. Then a few minutes later I was looking through my text messages for a picture from the daddy/daughter dance I took my niece to (since her dad passed away) and came across this picture of Mr Bubbles as a baby with Ella. Now I'm full on missing him.

It doesn't take much to bring back the sadness of losing him. I keep reminding myself of how good a life he lived, without any regrets with us and how peacefully he went in my arms. That leads to remembering the joy he brought to our lives and I feel better.

Hard to believe that it's been 2 years since I lost Mr Bubbles. It was on the 3rd, but with everything going on concerning my health, I didn't get to post on that day. I still miss him as much as the day he passed, but the fond memories and being able to look at the collage of photos I have hanging by my bed, makes me happy to have him in my life. He's still the best pet I ever had. There are a lot of very close seconds. No pet can ever replace my little wingman. Thank you for enriching our lives, Mr Bubbles. Rest well until we are together again.

Another year has passed since I lost Scruffy. It was December 7th, 2019. Has it really been 5 years? I've lost so many of my guinea pigs (2 this year) that it's getting harder to remember when they passed. Sammy's day is coming up on Saturday and it already been 3 years for him. That doesn't mean that I miss them any less. Scruffy, especially because he was the first one. I find myself talking to them all at different times. These little piggies have quite the positive effect on our lives and we're better for having them as part of it.

There was a passage in a book (How to Catch a Mole) that struck me. It was in reference to losing a loved one but I think applies to all losses that affect our hearts, human and animal.

"...sadness is the price we pay for love."

Nothing more true than that. I've lost so many of my little friends, and while it hurts just as much every time I lose one but. I've learned ways to deal with the pain. I've honored Sammy by giving his brother, Dean the best life I can. So much that he's lived the longest out of all, surpassing Mr Bubbles by 2 months thus far. I actually honor them all in this way. There's the tributes and rememberence I post annually for each one, their urns and plaques on the guinea pig wall of fame.

Someone who hasn't experienced the love of these amazing pets might think it's silly, but that's because they don't understand.
