I don't give my guys too many treats, but we are adopting a new guy (age 5) who the current owner says "loves pea flakes." I ordered these from
Small Pet Select and noticed that they have a lot of very positive reviews. My concern with any of these freeze-dried foods is the potential for bloat. We have had so many issues with bloat over the years, and I'm not too keen on the idea of feeding dried pea flakes, but thought could give a few to the new fellow as he settles in as a way to bond with him.
I'm just curious to know if anyone here has fed pea flakes to their pigs and if so, have they ever caused any GI issues?
ETA: Here is the new guy. :) His name is Chandler, and I think we'll probably keep the name as it's kinda cute. We're picking him up tomorrow.

He’s adorable! And his name is so sophisticated, I’d keep his name, too! I don’t know anything about pea flakes. I think it was Little Adventures/Squeak Dreams that fed pea flakes all the time. I wasn’t sure if they were pet food or human food. I’ve seen pea flake snacks for people but they’re probably salted and roasted like chips.

Yes indeed! He is absolutely adorable! That looks like a guinea pig pin-up photo!
I believe pea flakes have good protein content. Pea (though not in flake form) was an ingredient in my organic chicken feed, if I remember correctly, and was not popular. I have always wondered why protein was not a prominent needed nutrient in a guinea pig diet - most fed foods are lower in protein.
In humans, the higher fiber content of peas can cause gas, as we try to break down the fiber. I think of guinea pigs being fiber processing machines. I know how observant you are. I would give the flakes a chance. Maybe he gets some of his good looks from pea flakes!

I've fed pea flakes from both SPS and GuineaDad to my pigs. Haven't noticed any GI issues from them.

Hi Waddles! How many pea flakes do you typically feed at one time?

2 or 3 per pig. Most liked it though some preferred fresh forages from my yard and whatever vegetables might be growing in my garden. It's kind of fun feeding different things and seeing each pig's likes and dislikes. Tastes often seem to sync in pairs - guess it's if the cagemate eats it, it must be good.
Chandler's a cutie.
