Guinea Lynx'    TOPICAL IVERMECTIN TREATMENT FOR GUINEA PIGS @ 0.5mg/kg
USING IVOMEC INJECTION 1.0% SOLUTION

Ivermectin can be used topically to kill mange mites and may also kill lice and fur mites. It is safe for pregnant sows and young that have reached 12 ounces (340 grams) in weight. Repeat treatment at least once 7 to 10 days later to kill emerging mites (eggs are not killed). Treat all guinea pigs simultaneously. For more information and cautions, read www.guinealynx.info/ivermectin.html. Remember, the safest way to treat your guinea pigs for mites is to see a vet.

Purchase a 50ml bottle of Ivomec Injection 1% solution or a generic 1% solution (see: www.guinealynx.info/ivermectin_products.html). This 50ml bottle contains 500mg of ivermectin. Each ml (cc) contains 10 mg ivermectin (10 mg/ml). Guinea pigs are dosed at 0.5mg/kg. This amount of ivermectin is found in 0.05 cc of this solution. A 50ml bottle contains enough ivermectin to give 1000 one kilo pigs a single dose, so measure carefully to avoid a deadly overdose.

To properly treat your pets at the recommended rate of 0.5mg/kg (found in 0.05cc of the solution), you must have an accurate weight for each animal. Multiply their weight in kilos by 0.05cc to determine the dose in cc's. The following table may help you determine the proper dose in cc's:

WEIGHT OF GUINEA PIG Dose in cc's
(1 cc = 1 ml)
Kilos  Grams    Approx oz    Approx lbs & oz
  0.34 kg   340 grams   12 oz             12 oz    0.017 cc
   0.4 kg   400 grams   14 oz             14 oz    0.02   cc
   0.5 kg   500 grams   17.6 oz    1 lb - 1.6 oz    0.025 cc
   0.6 kg   600 grams   21 oz    1 lb - 5 oz    0.03   cc
   0.7 kg   700 grams   24.6 oz    1 lb - 8.6 oz    0.035 cc
   0.8 kg   800 grams   28.2 oz    1 lb - 12.2 oz    0.04   cc
   0.9 kg   900 grams   31.7 oz    1 lb - 15.7 oz    0.045 cc

   1.2 kg   1200 grams   42.3 oz    2 lb - 10.3 oz    0.06   cc
   1.3 kg   1300 grams   45.8 oz    2 lb - 13.8oz    0.065 cc
   1.4 kg   1400 grams   49.3 oz    3 lb - 1.3 oz    0.07   cc
   1.5 kg   1500 grams   52.8 oz    3 lb - 4.8 oz    0.075 cc

A small needled 1cc syringe can be used to draw the dose. Look for a syringe with a removable needle. Stick the needled tip in the self sealing rubber top of the ivermectin bottle. Invert the bottle and slowly draw a single dose into the syringe. If you cannot remove the needle, dose carefully to avoid pricking your pet. For photographs to illustrate how this is done, see: https://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30325
DO NOT DRAW MULTIPLE DOSES TO TREAT SEVERAL GUINEA PIGS AT ONE TIME.

Express the droplets on the skin behind each ear. Part of the dose can also be applied directly to areas of hair loss and/or the skin on the rump. Fold over some fur and rub it in. Avoid contacting the ivermectin directly with your finger so the animal receives the entire dose (this product is also a human medication). If you use a needleless syringe, the entire dose will look like a drop or two.

If the entire dose does NOT look like it is approximately a drop or two, DO NOT TREAT YOUR GUINEA PIG YOURSELF! Repeat at least once, 7 to 10 days later. Store ivermectin at room temperature away from light.
